FIAF delegation visits Bangladesh Film Archive

Dhaka, 3 December 2018.

A two-member FIAF delegation visited Bangladesh capital Dhaka on 25-28 November 2018 to recce the proposed venues as well as to discuss issues relating to hosting of the 77^th FIAF Congress under the auspices of Bangladesh Film Archive (BFA) in a befitting manner. The delegation comprised Mr. Christophe Dupin, Senior Administrator of the FIAF Secretariat and Mr. Shivendra Singh, Founder Director of Film Heritage Foundation, India. Both are the members of FIAF executive committee.

At the BFA, the delegation was received by the Director General of the organization Mr. Md. Azizur Rahman. The delegation visited the newly built BFA Building to see themselves the Multipurpose Auditorium, Projection Hall, Seminar Hall, specialized Film Vaults and the Library. They also visited different parts of the building as well as the surrounding areas. They were very impressed at the BFA complex and proposed the BFA officials to organize all the major events including General Assembly, Symposium, Film Screening of the 2021 FIAF Congress at the BFA complex instead of organizing these at expensive city hotels as per the original planning. The delegation held a formal meeting with the senior officials of the BFA and brief them in details about the hosting the prestigious event.

The FIAF delegation paid a courtesy call on the Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh for Ministry of Information Mr. Abdul Malek at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka. The Information Secretary said that it was expected the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh would inaugurate the FIAF Congress in Dhaka in 2021 to be hosted in conjunction with celebration of the 50^th Anniversary of Independence of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He requested the delegation to help Bangladesh Film Archive in bridging any gap in organizing the big event with a grand success.

The delegation requested the Secretary to arrange for comfortable arrival and departure of the delegates at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The delegation also expressed its deep satisfaction at Bangladesh’s readiness as well as overall preparation with regard to hosting the 77^th FIAF Congress in Dhaka.
